I love food, but sometimes my food doesn’t love me back. My name is Elizabeth, and I have multiple food allergies. I have foods I can’t eat. I have foods I can tolerate in small amounts under duress, and foods that will make me itch or bloat or get hives for the rest of the night. For the former, I have my EpiPen, and for all the rest, there’s Benadryl.
But hark, I hear your cry! “Why don’t you just not eat what makes you sick?” is the question on the lips of the charming public? Well, my dearly devoted, there’s only one real response to that: I try my hardest!
Part of taking control of my allergies means coming up with the recipes you’ll find here, full of foods which I can eat with items I, currently, haven’t reacted poorly too. As anyone with allergies knows, sometimes you can cross every ‘T’ and dot every ‘I’ and still wind up with H-I-V-E-S scrawled across your face the next morning. To combat this, I’ve started accumulating old recipes of foods I love with substitutions that mean I can still enjoy them, and so can the rest of my friends and family.
I’m not a doctor, a dietician, or any kind of medical professional. If you have questions about allergies and how to identify them, please seek qualified medical advice! These recipes are the ones I use to feed myself and my family. I hope you like them, too!
