Professional Organizations
Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America
The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America is a non-profit organization and “the oldest asthma and allergy patient group in the world,” according to their website. I think they have an easy to understand allergy section, showing the types of allergies and how people with allergies can recognize their symptoms and seek help.
The American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology
This link will take directly to their page on allergies, but it’s also a good source for finding an allergist in the USA if you think you need one. It also has some good information on child allergies, symptom tests, and anaphylaxis (and what to look out for!) It’s not going to replace the need for a doctor, but it’s still a good site to keep in mind.
FARE: Food Allergy Research and Education
FARE is a great resource for understanding allergies, and how we all live with them. They talk about the most common allergies, and also some of the more rare forms an allergy may take. They’re a non-profit promoting awareness, education, and research.
Blogs
A crowd-sourced guide to restaurants and other eaterys in the US. It has an interactive sorting feature to search for your particular allergy in your area! The allergies listed are fairly common (wheat, dairy, peanuts, etc) but even if you have a more rare allergy, you can get a good grip on what restaurants in your area might be able to handle your food needs if you go out to eat. It also has ‘Dining Tips’ for Eating While Allergic.
Got an allergy to corn? You need to visit this blog. She’s incredibly informative, very concise, and her ‘Hidden Corn’ lists are an absolute life saver. She also lives with “gluten free, soy free +30, MCAS, H-EDS, G6PD Deficiency” and has posts about that, too. Fantastic resource, but don’t get overwhelmed by all the information!
